Google Business Home and New Performance Reports: Practical Next Steps for Local Businesses

Google just started rolling out two useful updates for local businesses: a new Google Business Home dashboard (currently in closed beta, mainly US and UK) and a completely revamped Performance section inside Google Business Profiles.

At Wevlopers we work with small and medium businesses every day, and these changes give you clearer data and faster ways to act on it. The new Performance reports break down engagement, reviews, search trends and audience insights in one place, while Business Home aims to connect your Profile, Merchant Center, YouTube and Ads so you can move from insight to action quicker.

Most local business owners never open the Performance tab regularly. That is a missed opportunity. The numbers show how people actually find you, how many call, request directions or click through to your site. When calls drop, the usual causes are reviews, photos, hours or category choices — not some mysterious algorithm shift. Wevlopers recommends checking these reports at least once a month so you catch problems early.

What the New Performance Reports Actually Show

The updated Performance section (still rolling out) includes clearer tabs for Overview, Engagement, Reviews, Search trends and Audience. You get month-over-month changes, top recommendations and a better breakdown of review activity.

Key numbers that matter for most service businesses:

Views — how often your profile appeared on Search and Maps.

Interactions — total calls, direction requests, website clicks, messages and bookings.

Search terms — the actual queries that showed your profile. This is free local keyword research.

Compare the same month last year rather than just last month. Seasonality is strong in home services, healthcare and real estate. A drop in views with steady calls often means Google adjusted how it counts impressions. A drop in both calls and directions is usually real and needs action.

How to Use the Data This Month

Open your profile (search your business name while signed in, or go to business.google.com), click Performance and note these three things:

1. Which search terms bring the most views? Add those services or pages to your website if they are missing.

2. Is your interaction rate healthy? Average profiles convert roughly 4–7% of views into some action. If yours is lower, improve photos, reply to recent reviews and post an update.

3. Check the recommendations section. Google is surfacing practical next steps more clearly in the new reports.

Also watch Google Posts. Recent tests have moved the Posts section higher in the local knowledge panel for some users. A short, relevant post with a photo can now get more visibility.

Google Business Home — What to Expect

Business Home is a closed beta that brings your Business Profile, Merchant Center, YouTube and Ads into one place. Google describes it as a growth partner built with Gemini models that turns insights into quick actions.

If you receive an invitation, the main benefits so far are:

- Manage multiple locations more easily

- Create and track posts in one dashboard

- See combined performance across connected accounts

It is currently limited to select categories in the US and UK and businesses with fewer than 10 locations. Most businesses in India, Australia, UAE and other markets will not see it yet, but the new Performance reports inside the regular profile are already useful everywhere.

Simple Monthly Checklist

Spend 15–20 minutes once a month:

Reviews — Reply to every new review. Ask recent happy customers for one if volume is low.

Photos — Add 2–3 fresh real photos (interior, team, completed work).

Hours and services — Confirm they match reality and cover your main offerings.

Posts — Publish one update or offer. Check the new view counts on recent posts.

Performance numbers — Record calls, directions, website clicks and top search terms in a simple spreadsheet so you can see trends.

These small consistent actions still move the needle more than most technical changes for local visibility.

Final Note

The new reports and Business Home are helpful tools, but they do not replace solid basics: accurate information, genuine reviews, good photos and relevant content. Focus on the numbers that connect to real customers calling or visiting.
